About.

The Journal.

Literary Papers is the journal of the Harvard English Department. We publish the work of graduate and undergraduate students. The path to publication and the process of running of a journal provides experiences essential to a wide variety of literary careers.

This journal was formed to give students in the Harvard English Department a chance to hone academic skills, such as paper writing and peer reviewing, and to develop interdisciplinary skills, including design and programming. Overall, we aim to prepare students for the changing world of literary careers.

We invite you to join us for the 2021-2022 academic year, as a contributing writer, peer reviewer, or member of our editorial team. We will be accepting applications for our editorial and peer review teams through October 22 and literary submissions by May 10, 2022.

Mission.

Literary Papers grew out of conversations about the state of literary training in the 21st century university. The venues for our academic work are more various than ever before, expanding far beyond the academy, and creating fruitful careers for the writers, thinkers, and communicators that the study of English department produces.

As such, at Literary Papers we believe that to be a modern academic and to wield our knowledge in a 21st century context, requires training in design, programming, writing, and management. By taking on a role at Literary Papers, you will not only gain experience in work traditional to the academy (publication, peer review, academic article writing), but will have an opportunity to learn the Adobe suite (inDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator), work closely with contributing authors, and to manage all of the elements of journal production. We aim to build the resumes of our contributors and our staff, fitting them for literary careers of the 21st century.

Join us for workshops, writing sessions, editing marathons, and design meetings! We hope to welcome you into our community as we foster the connections that will carry literary study forward.
